Publishing Worker's Stories...
Carquinez Press publishes books about workers and their work. Over the past 4 years the press has published John Robinson's photo-documentation of high-steel ironworkers and the construction of several new bridges on the West Coast of the United States. In 2006 John Robinson received a prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship for his work documenting the traditions of high-steel iron workers.
In 2005 Carquinez Press published Joe Gladstone's memoir To Make the Run recounting his experience as a deep-water sailor in the merchant fleet during the Second World War.
In 2006 Carquinez Press published Harry Lundeberg's Stetson & Other Nautical Treasures by acclaimed folklorist Archie Green who explores the history and nautical lore of the Sailors' Union of the Pacific. In 2007 Archie Green received the "Living Legend" award from the Library of Congress in Washington D.C.
Carquinez Press has worked closely with the Fund for Labor Culture & History--a San Francisco based non-profit organization formed to educate the general public about the history and current activities of labor unions and all working people in America.
The Carquinez Press looks forward to working with FLC&H and other nonprofits, as well as labor unions, museums, and historical societies to find and publish works that document and celebrate our nation's rich labor heritage.
